Nestled along the scenic coast of Selangor, Malaysia, Sekinchan beckons travelers with its serene countryside charm and picturesque landscapes. Known as the “Rice Bowl of Selangor,” this quaint town boasts vast stretches of verdant paddy fields that sway gently in the breeze, creating a mesmerizing sight to behold. Beyond its agricultural splendor, Sekinchan offers a wealth of attractions, from charming fishing villages to bustling markets brimming with local delicacies. Whether you seek tranquility amidst nature or a taste of authentic rural life, Sekinchan promises an unforgettable escape from the hustle and bustle of city living.
1. Sekinchan Paddy Fields

A visit to Sekinchan isn’t complete without marvelling at its beautiful stretches of rice paddies that make up the iconic landscape of the quaint town. Watch the picturesque green fields form a picture-perfect scenery with the clear blue sky and have your camera on standby to get that shot for the ‘gram!
2. Bagan Fishing Village

Sekinchan is affectionately known as “the land of fish and rice”. Besides visiting the beautiful paddy fields, be sure to also make time to bask in the tranquil vibe by the jetty. We’d recommend popping by Bagan, the main fishing village in Sekinchan located along the river in the southwest of the town. Depending on the time of your visit, it may be a quiet and calm place when all the boats are out in the ocean, or a busy location full of fishermen unloading their catch of the day. Check out the stores and seafood market in Bagan to get some fresh seafood or local snacks as a souvenir!
3. Pantai Redang Beach

While Pantai Redang obviously isn’t the most beautiful beach in Malaysia, it’s still a pretty nice place to have a relaxing time at. Sink your toes into the soft sand, fly a kite, or just sit down and enjoy the warm sunshine and sea breeze! There are some seafood restaurants and other stalls in the vicinity of Pantai Redang where you can get yourself a satisfying meal or snack before heading over for an after-meal stroll.
4. Sekinchan Wishing Tree

The Sekinchan Wishing Tree is a hotspot in the Pantai Redang area. The branches of this old wishing tree are weighed down by long red ribbons bearing coins and the wishes of thousands of people. You can make a donation at the nearby temple to get yourself a red ribbon, write your wishes on it and throw it up to the tree. It is said that the higher the ribbon dangles from the tree, the higher the chance that your wishes will come true!
5. The Paddy Gallery

For those who wish to have a more educational insight into the paddies of Sekinchan, the Sekinchan Paddy Gallery is a gem worth adding to your itinerary. You can also get yummy prawn crackers and rojak here!

Rest your legs and escape the heat (despite its rustic exterior, the cafe is air-conditioned and pretty cozy on the inside!) by popping by for a cup of coffee, a plate of pasta, or a slice of cake and enjoy your meal while overlooking the green fields.
